About the City of Young Harris

The City of Young Harris provides municipal services for residents and businesses of Young Harris, as well as others in the valley. City Hall provides for government offices, including the Young Harris legislative body, and provides public records, government services, and information about Young Harris services. Main Street Young Harris is also housed at City Hall. A list of local businesses may be found here.

History

Young Harris was founded on December 5, 1895, and was originally named "McTyeire", after Bishop Holland McTyeire. It was later renamed to honor Judge Young Harris, the benefactor of McTyeire Institute, which is now Young Harris College. The City celebrated its 130th Anniversary on December 5, 2025. Our Community:

Known as the Enchanted Valley, Young Harris is home to Young Harris College, Brasstown Valley Resort, Crane Creek Vineyards, and many other businesses and amenities.
